4 Tips to Becoming an Emotionally Healthy Person (Tip #2: Take Your Probiotic)

Hey everyone, it’s your girl, Keys!

Yesterday, I dished out the first tip to keeping yourself in tip-top emotional shape: make sure you’re moving every day. It doesn't matter what kind of movement it is, just make sure that you're exercising, because that movement is going to provide for you more dopamine than any pill could ever give you.

Now, for today's tip, I want you to make sure you’re taking a probiotic. Okay, Achea, why do you want me to take a probiotic? Well, because 75–80% of the serotonin that we need in our brain to regulate and stabilize our mood is in our gut, so probiotics and prebiotics have all of that stuff in it. In fact, there's a brand that I love called Garden of Life, and they have a specific formulation just for mood. I really love all of the benefits it has given me.

There are several different formulations in that brand of probiotics. However, if you are struggling with your emotional health, try the one that's formulated for mood. It works wonders for me. But please note, I'm not a doctor—these tips are just a few of the things I’ve learned along the way to my journey to recovery from being diagnosed with generalized anxiety a few years ago.

Speaking of, if you guys don't know my story, I won't bore you with all of those details, but you can always read my journey here. I am now at the point where I'm able to wean myself off of medication, but it wasn't until I was able to put these different things in place before I could get to this point.

So, to recap: tip number one is to get plenty of physical exercise regularly. Tip number 2 is to take your probiotics. Be sure to check any Whole Foods or health foods store to find it, and you should be good to go!
