It's Okay to Drop the Ball Sometimes and Tend to Your Garden
We live in the times where " peace" is hard to come by. I mean most people can't even remember the last time they had peace and quiet. Nowhere to go and no one to call. These days, our lives are so fast paced that we can barely think straight. I used to think that it was because of the nuances of technology and that these advances were to blame. On the contrary, it's not a piece of technology that's disturbing the "peace". It's us, the operators of the technology that's the issue. We as a society of people have this desire to stay connected and at all times be in the loop of what's going on. Even our own children are addicted to wifi.Let's be honest, when's the last time you actually went to a restaurant and went the whole meal without taking a peek at your phone to check texts, Instagram, Facebook or whatever else. Probably, too long ago to remember. I mean it's an epidemic. I'm out eating and I see the top of everyone's head because they are looking down at their phones and sadly, kids included. Long gone are the days of crayons and tic tac toe. After all who needs that when you have a tablet. Right?Listen, I'm not here to beat up on technology. I think it's extremely valuable and has ultimately helped us more than hurt us. However, we do have to be careful to be choosy about when to engage and not to engage. And that's the point of this post. You see, it's in those moments when we choose to engage that we should've looked the other way instead. It's those moments that rob us of our peace. It's hard enough to stay positive and motivated on our own with all that life throws at us. So when we engage in conversation whether face to face, over the phone, or via text and we haven't tended to our own garden we reap negative consequences. We have a responsibility to ourselves and loved ones to create our own mini universe in which you have the say as to how much negativity if any enters in. Simply put...we can't help every one and we can't solve everybody else's problems. And to think we can is a little arrogant and a tad irresponsible to those we are responsible for.In order to have more serenity in our lives we must cultivate an atmosphere of such. That means there's no need to answer every call or text the moment they come through our feed. There's no law that says in order to be considered a good person you have to stop what you are doing and help someone solve their dilemma. You aren't a better friend because you have what I call the "martyr mentality". This thought process says, " I'm gonna sacrifice my well-being in order to help you with your stuff". In fact, the last time I checked the only time it's appropriate to operate in that mindset is when it comes to Christ if you are a believer. So, fly free little birdies from the expectations of others or yourself for that matter. Know that it's okay to drop the ball sometimes. It's okay to be healthily selfish, and yes there is such a thing. It's okay to not be available sometimes, and it's okay to not answer every text or call. It's okay to not jump in and be a hero. Choose the path to walk in peace. Don't let other people's "stuff" become your stuff. Be free to live a life that's drama free.Let freedom ring!!! Free at last, free at last, thank God we have a choice to be free at last!!!! That freedom is a part of kingdom living. ❤
