A Letter from Achea: "I Need to Come Clean..."
That’s it, I admit: I am a worry wart. You could blame it on my anxiety disorder, the way I’m wired or how I was raised—but whatever the reason, that’s what I do...worry.
I started Real Girls F.A.R.T. as a blog, initially. I had no idea how it would turn out. True, I wanted to appeal to other women and help them navigate through their various roles, but I had no idea it would turn out the way it has. It’s grown more than I’ve ever imagined. And while that’s warmed my heart on so many levels—it doesn’t come without its challenges.
For me, there’s a fine, tight-rope line I’ve had to walk while answering this particular question, daily: how do I monetize this brand so I can continue to give back to mental health causes, contribute to my own brand, help people, stay relevant and constantly provide new content?
Let’s face it, it’s a rat race out here. If influencers were completely honest, you’d hear how tough it is to offer relevant and helpful content on a regular basis in a way that makes money for the brand. This is especially true in this space of mental health.
I’ve been lost at times and utterly exhausted of “trying” to be creative. Truth be told, nothing starves creativity and innovation more than “having” to be innovative. It’s hard out here, y’all, especially when the wellness and mental health space is as saturated as it is. So, I guess you can say that writing this blog is my therapy. I’ve been on a vacation with my family this week and have had to fight against being consumed with thoughts of what if this doesn’t work? or how can I spread my love to everyone while making sure my platform is seen?
In my heart of hearts, I’ve never desired to be famous through this platform. I mean, let’s keep it way real: you don’t pour your heart out to the world and discuss your entire life story, all the while placing your relationship with the people involved in those stories, to get famous. Sympathy? Maybe. But not fame. My heart has always been to help people. To help other women find their voices and tell their stories. And if for some reason they need even more help finding their voices, I’ve been happy to lend them mine—hence creating Real Girls F.A.R.T.
So, if you’re wondering what all this means—it simply means I’m returning to my roots of not being overly concerned with staying relevant. My goal has always been clear: staying woke and doing my part to make this world a better place to live in.
How about you? What’s something you’ve been trying to work on lately? If you’re feeling overwhelmed, ask yourself this: “What’s been my main goal from the start?” This week, instead of focusing on all the tasks you need to complete to reach your goal, focus on the goal, itself. Now, take a moment to be proud of yourself for how far you’ve come.
